As the State News Director your primary responsibility will be for the production of a competitive and polished weeknight news bulletin, the management of staffing and requirements within associated budgets. The position is accountable for managing the editorial integrity and quality of the News, including setting the Editorial direction across the State and overall ensuring that the News complies with all obligations in relation to media law.
Applicants will have extensive experience working as a journalist, sub editing and Chief of Staff experience, along with demonstrated Management and mentoring skills in an office environment, they will report directly to the Network Director of News.
The successful candidate will have the following:
At least five years sub-editing experience in a media environment (preferably television).
Ability to understand the regional important of issues, a final product with balance and integrity.
Experience working with a team in a deadline driven environment.
Proven experience mentoring and developing journalistic staff in a competitive environment.
Proven multi-tasking ability (editing and writing).
A strong knowledge and understanding of Media Law in Queensland.
Strong communication skills.
Excellent writing skills.
Experience in the use of ENPS or similar platforms.
Strong understanding of issues affecting Regional Queensland.
A Journalism degree or similar is essential.
Ability to manage both Journalist and Camera staff, making active decisions throughout the day to achieve editorial outcomes and deadlines, and all within agreed best practice and workflows.
Accountability for all staff within the department and resolution of requirements working with senior management and People and Culture.
Leadership and development of Journalists and Cameramen within the state, and effective mechanisms for coaching and development of news staff within the State.
Management of the News product to the market, including partnership activities key stake holders as approved by Senior Management. Working in conjunction with News Presenters and Sales Managers.
Partnering with the Operations and Production Manager, maintaining the WIN Queensland bulletin within the operational requirements and budgets as set.
Compliance with all relevant guidelines, regulations, laws or policies/ procedures relevant to the role.
Overall quality and integrity of the News within the state, including the rating performance of WIN News bulletins.
